“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
– Fred Rogers
Children have an innate ability to work through their challenges with play. Play is their primary language and is the natural way they “talk” about what they are struggling with. It is also through play that they are able to work towards solutions. With reflection and guidance in play therapy, major shifts can occur in behavior issues and emotional expression. A child can move through feeling out of control to feeling a greater sense of empowerment and ability to handle the challenges of life.
My work is predominantly a child-centered approach, with some directive work when needed, usingSynergetic Play Therapy™ (SPT) as my primary model. SPT is a research informed play therapy model blending neuroscience, attachment/attunement, therapist authenticity, emotional congruence, nervous system regulation, and mindfulness to get to the heart of the healing process for children.
I not only work with your child through their current challenges, but I also work with you, as the parent(s) or caregiver(s), on the best ways to support your child and their unique expression in this world.
